Donating to the Food Pantry adds a feather!!

Donating a food item to the Food Pantry provides a feather for our Placentino Turkey! Our turkey is located in the Atrium of Placentino School. Children place a feather, with their name on it, on the turkey when they donate a food item. Teachers have the feathers and children are able to place their feather up during the school day.

Thursday, November 20th, is Food Pantry Day at Placentino School. The Holliston Pantry Shelf ( supplies food free of charge to Holliston residents in need. The Pantry is different from other food pantries in several aspects. First, the Pantry is open five days a week all year. Furthermore, the Pantry allows clients to shop for their own food, a completely unique approach. Finally, the Pantry has no paid staff and relies on volunteers to run it. Therefore, all money received goes either toward buying food or maintaining the space for the Pantry. The Pantry relies entirely on private donations and receives no municipal, state, or federal support. Items most needed at the Pantry: Canned Soups, Peanut Butter, Canned Meats/Tuna, Snacks, Paper Towels, Toilet Paper. Students may bring donations to school which will be collected by the classroom teacher.

Children in Grade 1 will be attending a field trip to the Holliston Police Department. Please see below for the Grade 1 schedule of attendance:

Please connect with your classroom teacher to learn more about the Thanksgiving Feasts scheduled for the week of 11/24/14. This is a wonderful time when we come together to share our thanks for each other.

The Culture Connection is a wonderful program designed to enrich the learning and core instruction in the classroom. Culture Connection is sponsored by the HEPTSA and artfully scheduled by Mrs. Nora Oquendo, a previous Placentino parent. We are lucky to have these wonderful programs come to our school and put learning to life in first hand demonstrations, music, dancing, and exhibits. This assembly occurs during the school day and is designed for student audience participation only. You are welcome to connect with Mrs. Nora Oquendo, at , if you are interested in volunteering your time to help support these experiences for our children.  Here are some up and coming events:

December 9th

Grade 1 and Grade 2

Kathak, North Indian Classical Dance

Kathak (Hindi: कथक) is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dance. This dance form traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathakars or storytellers. Its form today contains traces of temple and ritual dances, and the influence of the bhakti movement. From the 16th century onwards it absorbed certain features of Persian dance and central Asian dance which were imported by the royal courts of the Mughal era.

If you are planning to volunteer at Placentino School, please complete a CORI Form prior to your visit during the school day. Our offices require up to two weeks in advance completing this check, so please send in your forms as soon as you can. The CORI Form can be found in the link labeled “Forms” on our website ( Please call the office a few days ahead of your visit to be sure your documents have been processed.
